Spicer, Benjamin deliver for Pelham

Chris Benjamin went the distance, striking out 11 in a five-hit gem, but Pelham's tourney-opening victory was anything but a walk in the park.

Fall Mountain, seeded 11th, gave No. 6 Pelham all it could handle, taking a 1-1 game into the sixth when the Pythons struck for two and put it away.

Benjamin started the winning rally with a hit, and both he and Ryan Frank were safe when the latter placed perfect bunt down. Chris Gamble moved the two up with a sacrifice of his own, and All-Stater Dan Spicer doubled them both home.

The Pythons catch a break today, hosting the quarters at 2 p.m. vs. Bow. The visitors, seeded 14th, KO'd No. 3 Monadnock in the opener.

Depleted Sanborn fades against Fall Mountain

KINGSTON, N.H. — Fall Mountain may have only dressed 24 players for yesterday's game, but it was host Sanborn that was undermanned.

Without its top two quarterbacks going into the action, the Indians simply ran out of options offensively. Those limitations meant that Sanborn just couldn't sustain drives. Understandably, the defense tired out and once Wildcat quarterback Kaian Wilkes had some time to work through his passing progressions, he took full advantage in a second-half explosion that created a 28-7 victory.
