Pitcher perfect

Cassandra Hunt may not have been quite perfect, but she was as close as humanly possible.

The Brooks pitcher threw a no-hitter, striking out eight of her 15 outs and finishing just a walk away from a pefect game, and was 2 for 2 at the plate with two runs as Brooks blasted Middlesex 15-0.

Surging Brooks

 

The Brooks boys hockey team continued to surge, blanking Middlesex 4-0 in the New England Prep semifinals. Brooks once again showed good balance with Connor Moore netting a goal and an assist. It will play in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Icenter in Salem against a team to be determined today.

Brooks to finals

 

The Brooks field hockey team advanced to the Class B prep finals today by defeating Middlesex 3-2. Danielle Doherty, who played a terrific all-around game, scored the games's only goal two minutes into the second half for the No. 2-seed Green and White (16-4) on an assist from Alesandra Miller. Allie Barry also played well for Brooks, which will face No. 1-seed St. Mark's at 11 a.m. today at Loomis.

Bruno bounces back

After missing eight games due to injury, Andover's Andrew Bruno has made an impact returning to Brooks' lineup, driving a walk-off two-run single in the 10th inning for a topsy-turvy 11-10 victory over Middlesex. With four RBIs, Bruno joined Phil Doyle (two-run triple in sixth) and James Williams (started rallies with three singles) as offensive heroes for Brooks.

Konovalchik's big day can't save Brooks

CONCORD — Sophomore Andrew Konovalchik recorded the first 100-yard rushing game of his career and scored two touchdowns, but Brooks lost to Middlesex 35-13 yesterday afternoon.

Konovalchik, a North Andover resident, rushed for 101 yards on 15 carries, including a 28-yard touchdown. He also caught an 18-yard score from quarterback Coy Candelario.

Kids come through

Underclassmen played a huge role in Brooks' comeback 3-2 softball victory over Middlesex. Freshman Emma Goff led off the third inning with a single and scored, junior Jackie DiTroia of Andover drove in Windham's Andie Missert with the tying tally in the fifth, and sophomore Jill D'Arrigo singled home classmate Lauren Bishop, who had doubled. Sophomore Sam Nestor struck out seven for the victory.

Phillips Academy senior Sarah Onorato hit for the cycle, getting a triple for her final of four hits, as Phillips Academy thumped Middlesex 10-4. "I can't remember the last time I've had anyone do that," said veteran Phillips coach Peter Drench.
