Brooks bursts past Governor's

NORTH ANDOVER — Brooks bounced back nicely from its first loss of the season with a solid 31-7 victory over The Governor's Academy.

Ahead 10-7 at halftime, the Green and White scored 21 straight points in the third quarter to pull away. Jordan Johnson (16 rushes, 107 yards) led the outburst with a 23-yard pass to Brian Chalebois, Andrew Coke then threw a 45-yard halfback pass to Methuen's Jason Buco and Johnson completed the scoring with a 23-yard run.

Buco rules Governor's

Methuen's Jason Buco held the Governor's Academy hitless into the sixth inning, finishing with a one-hit gem as Brooks prevailed, 4-0. Buco fanned 14 in going the distance, getting valuable breathing room in the close contest when Alex Clapp delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning to create a 3-0 lead.

Getting eight hits off All-ISL pitcher Laura Beohner, Brooks got its season off to a great start by toppling defending league champion The Governor's Academy, 5-1. Sophomore catcher Sarah Onorato followed up a great rookie campaign with a perfect 3 for 3, scoring twice and driving in a run to back up Caroline Gattuso's four-hit, six-strikeout effort in the circle. Junior Ramya Prathuri was productive from the ninth spot as the North Andover resident contributed two hits and a walk.

Big Blue dominate from beyond the arc.

The Big Blue drained eight shots from beyond the arc as Phillips Academy beat Governor's Academy 71-65. Zach Burdeau paced Phillips with 16 points and two 3-pointers. Thomas Palleschi netted 16 points of his own. Khalid McCaskill and Brian Russell were both in double figures.

Governor's Academy 7, Phillips Exeter 4

After going down 3-0 thanks to a natural hat trick from Exeter's Cori Bravi, the Govs stormed back in the second period, scoring five goals - three within 56 seconds. The Govs added two more in the third to put the game out of reach. The sophomore line of Alex Carpenter (3 goals, 2 assists), Kate Leary (2 goals and 2 assists), and Alanna McDonough (1 goal and 4 assists) were the difference makers. Molly Houston added a goal and an assist, and Abbey Karin (2 assists), and Kelly Lavallee played solid.

Nobles 1, Governor's Academy 0

In the 50th minute, the Noble and Greenough squad was awarded a corner kick that produced the game-winner against the visiting Governor's Academy (10-3-1), 1-0.

The Govs played outstanding defense," explained coach Roberta McLain. "The majority of the game saw an aggressive brand of strong, quality soccer."

Nobles 2, Governor's Academy 1

The Govs (6-10) came out strong and scored the game's first goal but a very tough home-advantaged Nobles squad scored two unanswered goals for the 2-1 win on Wednesday. The Govs offense of Kate Leary, Polly Merck, Chrissy Toomey, Katie Wolfe, and Christine Goglia looked impressive, as did the Govs defense, anchored by Caitlin Toomey, Jill Conway, Hannah Rochman, and Demi Leone. Midfielders Ellie Clayman and Maggie Morrissey also played well. Conway assisted Merck for the lone Gov's score.

The Govs (9-2-1) executed a strong first half offensive attack and dismantled St. Paul's on Wednesday afternoon, 4-0. All four goals were scored in the initial half with Linley Block scoring two and dishing out an assist, Taylor Ocko netting a pair, and Becca Block assisting twice.

St. Paul's 2, Governor's Academy 1

The Govs (6-8) lost a tough one to a driven St. Paul's team on Wednesday, 2-1. The Govs dominated the first half early, but could not find the back of the net until, with 11:28 remaining in the half, Jill Conway found Kate Leary for the game's first goal. However, St. Paul's increased their aggression from there on out and managed to overwhelm the Govs for the win. Governor's Academy is now in a must-win scenario for their last three games in order to qualify for the state tournament.
