Southeastern rallies past Whittier

EASTON — In a game of wild swings, Southeastern best Whittier Tech, 35-24. The visitors led 21-0 then Whittier reeled off 24 straight points in the second and third quarters. But Southern punched in two scores in the fourth to grab the season-opening win. Tyler Floodstrom threw a 32-yard TD pass to Josh Rousseau for the Cats' first score then scored on a 21-yard run. A.J. Espinal capped the scoring one a 5-yard run and then the conversion rush. Crisdaudrry Ayala had the other two 2-point rushes. Floodstroom, a senior, also had a superb game on pass defense while Joey Cahill starred on both sides of the line.

Reggies crown pair

 

Greater Lawrence crowned two champions at the State Vocational Meet on its way toward taking fifth place.

Malib Pastrana continued his fine season by taking first at 182 and Tyler McDonald was a surprise winner at heavyweight. For Whittier, which came in fifth, Shaun Mears (170), Andrew Buzzell (195) and Sal Fonzo (220) all took thirds.

Whittier second in state Voke

 

 Whittier Tech didn't quite have enough firepower to keep pace with mighty Shawsheen. but the Wildcats were a strong runner-up yesterday in the state vocational meet.

The Wildcats had three impressive champions on the day. with Tyler Tannian leading the way. Seeded third, Tannian defeated the top two seeds on his way to the 138-pound crown and, in the process, won the 100th match of his career.

Whittier wins third straight

Sophomore Connor Bradley directed an effective two-minute drill to end the first half with a touchdown, then Whittier ground out a couple of impressive scoring drives to defeat Southeastern, 36-14. Bradley finished 10 of 17 for 125 yards and two TDs.

SOUTH EASTON — After recovering from a long bus ride over the first half, Whittier rode its traditional brand of ball to a 22-12 victory over Southeastern last night.

The Wildcats (2-2) dominated time of possession in the second half, running 35 offensive plays to Southeastern's 13.

"Tornado" blows Whittier to win

HAVERHILL — Same unbalanced line, same positioning, but Whittier Tech is showcasing another new offense this season.

Always an effective running team, the Wildcats unveiled the strong arm of senior quarterback Dillon Ryan as part of a pseudo-shotgun, "Tornado" attack. On a cool and drizzly Saturday morning against non-league opponent Southeastern, Ryan threw like it was 75-degrees and sunny as his three-touchdown effort highlighted an easy 42-16 season-opening victory.

How do you spell dynasty, again?

In Commonwealth Conference wrestling, it's definitely spelled R-E-G-G-I-E-S as Greater Lawrence proved once again yesterday at Whittier Tech by winning its seventh straight CAC meet. The Reggies have also won eight consecutive CAC regular-season titles.
