Brandon Santell and Jon Vellila split dutiers at 220 and heavyweight and both were undefeated and Eric Sanchez bumped up to 195 for a pin against standout Derek DiMascio to help Lawrence edge Wakefield 39-37 on its way to a quad-meet sweep to improve to 12-4 on the year. Lawrence's unbeaten volleyball team played its first tournament game just like the regular season — in dominant fashion, rolling past Winchester in three games. Abigail Heredia had another big game for the Lancers (19-0) at the net with 18 kills while Vielka Sanchez had 20 assists and 4 aces.
Read More »ANDOVER — Tommy Duncan ran for two scores and Victor Harrington threw touchdown aerials to Brendon Moody (63 yards) and Nick Zalanskas (2 yards) as Andover won its non-playoff matchup with Winchester, 27-14. Andover (3-5) got 158 of its 159 rushing yards from Duncan. Andover had probably its best defensive game of the season as Winchester was limited to the two TDs, the second on the final play of the game. Defensive passes Dennis Tavares had five passes defended, Kelvin Davila intercepted a pass and linebackers Phil Menihtas and Michael Slayton both payed inspired game.

Lawrence had a bounce-back effort at the Chicopee Duals, winning three of four, after struggling mightily against Chelmsford. Sophomore 106-pounder Luis Mauricio was 3-1 and only lost to Lowell Holiday Tournament finalist Scott Downs of Winchester 8-6, heavyweight Brandon Santell was 4-0 with four pins and Michael Hernandez and Chris Bueno were also 4-0. Freshman first-year wrestler Jaycob Zapata was an impressive 3-1.
