No. 4 Andover girls tennis suffered its first loss of the season, falling to No. 5 Winchester 5-0 in the Division 1 Round of 8. The Golden Warriors finished the season 20-1.

Knights spike way to finals

 

Surprising North Andover will be playing for its first sectional volleyball title Monday (4:30 p.m.) at Westford Academy.

The Knights (11-4), who were 12-68 since the program started in 2016, earned that right by defeating Winchester 3-1 in Friday's North semifinals.

Aiden Ranno (126). Amauris Gomes (160) and Anthony Araujo (220) were all 3-0 for Greater Lawrence but the best the Reggies could manage in a quad-meet was a tie against Excel Academy.

Connolly leads Scarlet Knights

Molly Connolly scored four goals and Lexi Swartz and Kelcey Dion each tallied a hat trick as No. 3 North Andover girls lacrosse topped No. 6 Winchester 16-8 in the Division 1 North quarterfinals. The Scarlet Knights will next take on the winner of Friday's matchup between No. 2 Chelmsford and No. 7 Woburn.

NECC: 18 runs in 1st

 

 Northern Essex scored all 18 runs in a wild first inning in an 18-1 rout of Bunker Hill. Rob Lagasse led the first inning offense and was 3 for 4 at the plate with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored for the surging Knights (12-13). Spencer Brown and Lawrence's Leo Romero both had 3-RBI triples.

Warriors win Newburyport Bank Classic

The Andover boys hockey team made its final case to make the Super 8, beating Winchester 3-2 to take home its second straight Newburyport Bank Classic championship. Alex Trottier made 22 saves and was named tourney MVP, as the Warriors (12-6-2) knocked off St. John's Prep and Winchester (14-7) to claim the crown. The committee will announce the Super 8 and the rest of the state pairings Saturday morning.
