With one second left in regulation, Whittier sophomore Destiny Ramirez knocked down a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give the Wildcats a 45-44 win over Matignon. Stassi Krafton lead the winners with 21 points and Nathalia Cintron pulled down 18 rebounds.

Jackson Petisce and the three other Rangers scored in the shootout for a thrilling 3-2 win over Revere-Malden-Matignon in the First Responders Cup. Aidan Hollingsworth had both goals in regulation for Methuen while Zach Alfonso had 27 big saves.

Vikings roll

The Triton boys basketball team cruised to an easy 72-36 win over Matignon, improving to 3-1 on the season. T.J. Overbaugh led the way with 14 points, including three 3-pointers, and Mason Ferrick added 12 points along with three triples of his own. The Vikings are now off until after Christmas, with their next game coming on Thursday, Dec. 27 against Newburyport in the Rowinski Holiday Tournament.

Royals shut out Matignon

The Georgetown baseball team rode a pair of terrific pitching performances to an 11-0 win over Matignon in the first round of the Division 4 North tournament. Kyle Greenler struck out 10 and allowed just one hit over five shutout innings, and Jason Bellefuielle finished the job with two scoreless innings of his own. Meanwhile, Jacob Adamsky went 4 for 4 with three RBIs, and the Royals put up 13 hits in total, breaking things wide open with seven runs in the fifth inning. Georgetown (13-8) now faces top-seeded Lowell Catholic in the Division 4 North quarterfinals on Monday at 4 p.m.

The Central Catholic girls hockey team had unbeaten Matignon, the top ranked team in Division 2, on the ropes before allowing the tying goal with about a minute left in Wednesday's 3-3 tie. Mary Lambert had two goals, Lilly Bibeau scored her first goal of the season, and freshman Julie Thing made 28 saves in net.
