Phillips impressive in opener

Jun Oh, Ben Morris and Curtis Hon each won two individual events to lead the Phillips swimmers to a 118-64 win over Choate in the opening meet of the season for the Big Blue. Oh took first place in the 200 Freestyle (1:45.71) and the 500 Freestyle (4:46.63) while Morris earned the top spot in the 200 IM (2:03.47) and the 100 Butterfly (54.38). Hon won the 100 freestyle (48.75) and the 50 freestyle (22.19).

Finally, a meet!

It's closing in on mid-October, but it wasn't until yesterday that the Phillips Academy cross country teams finally had a dual meet.

The Phillips boys beat Choate 26-30 as Ranat Zalov came in first and Andover's James Hamilton was ninth while the girls prevailed 23-35, as Kate Bulger was second and Katie Ellinger was third.

Despite dominating Choate throughout the game, Phillips Academy had to rally for a 2-1 field hockey win yesterday with former Salem High star Kyleigh Keating scoring the game-winner with just 2:09 left to play.

Phillips slips by Choate

ANDOVER | Bryan Farris' 44-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as Phillips Academy edged Choate, 11-8, in a battle of two undefeated teams.

After a scoreless first half and a Choate safety to open the second half, Farris got the Big Blue on the scoreboard when he found Mike Ciummei in the end zone on a 12-yard pass. Farris completed 20 of 40 for 254 yards and senior Ryan McCarthy was his favorite target on the day. The duo connected on seven passes for 107 yards. Ciummei caught six passes for 76 yards.
