North Andover fell hard to Beverly in softball 7-1 despite a mammoth homer by Candace Waldie and, in her varsity debut, two hits by freshman Angela Logomasini.

Tyler Zahoruiko (3 goals) and Alex Blane (1 goal, 2 assists) racked up three points apiece as North Andover topped Beverly, 7-2, to improve to 2-0. Brien O'Connor recorded 9 saves in the winning effort. Middies Zak Iovanella and Tom O'Connell helped control play and shut down the opposing offense.

The Masconomet-North Andover girls hockey team dropped Beverly-Gloucester, 4-1, in its first-ever tourney win. The score was knotted at 1-1 through two periods, but the Chieftains erupted for three third-period goals to seal the win. Jenn Pino (goal, assist), Alyssa Sady (two assists) and Lauren Cerretani (assist), all three of North Andover, combined for five much-needed points. Meg Twomey, also of North Andover, did some great work down low, and goalie Alex Jones nabbed 22 saves.

Meghan Twomey of North Andover scored with two minutes left on a power play and then assisted on a Hannah Koenig goal with one second left as the Masconomet/North Andover girls hockey team rally to tie Beverly 3-3.

Laura Drew netted two goals as the Andover girls hockey team topped Beverly, 3-1. Katie Shields rounded out the scoring with the Warriors' third goal, and Sarah Oteri recorded a pair of helpers. Megan Pettoruto turned aside eight shots to help Andover (7-2-1) secure its seventh win of the season.

North Andover's Jen Pino scored two goals and assisted on another to help the Masconomet-North Andover girls hockey team to a 4-1 win over Beverly. Meghan Twoomey, also of North Andover, had a goal and Lauren Ceretani added an assist.

Host Beverly looks to keep head coach Dan Bauer unbeaten in six career games against Salem High in the 110th game between these two storied rivals.

North Andover's Kelley Johnson helped the St. John's Prep boys soccer team blank Beverly 3-0. Cam Boudrow and Garrett Bulger also scored goals for the Eagles, and goalie Steve Pasinski recorded three saves in the shutout effort.

GLOUCESTER - Gloucester head football coach Paul Ingram wanted his team to get an advantage early in yesterday's game with Beverly. With both teams coming into the game at 2-0, Ingram wanted to seize the momentum early and hope it carried throughout the game.
