PLYMOUTH — Keeping Methuen's offense under control, Plymouth North rode out an early fourth-quarter touchdown to take a tight 13-7 opening-night decision yesterday.

Matty Walsh broke free for a 77-yard touchdown jaunt for the deciding points with about nine minutes left in the contest.

After Cody Merritt opened the scoring on a short, second-quarter run, the Rangers answered back quickly.

Four plays into their possession, junior Ryan Savastano (115 yards in his first varsity start) busted loose and rambled 55 yards to paydirt. Eric Lacroix booted the point-after to retie the game.

From there, Methuen struggled offensively, creeping inside the Plymouth North 40-yard line a couple of times in the second half but getting no closer to the end zone than that.
