DRACUT - Those around the Merrimack Valley Conference planning Dracut's demise might want to refrain from any football funerals.

The Middies, 0-2 coming in and reeling from huge losses to graduation and the emigration of their head coach across the river to Lowell, ran Central Catholic right off Beaudry Field, 27-14, before about 1,000 fans in the conference opener for both.

"We didn't play well, and that's on me," said Central coach Chuck Adamopoulos. "When we come out and play like this, it's on me. We didn't do a very good job."

Dracut grabbed a 14-0 first-half lead, holding Central to just a pair of first downs and 43 yards before the break. Then it really clamped down.

"To be honest, it's their defense, their defense played awesome," said Adamopoulos.

One key returner, QB Matt Silva, delivered the Middie third-down haymakers all night long, connecting on 12 of 18 passes for 115 yards and adding 75 yards on 19 rushes.

"We didn't get off the field at key times," said Adamopoulos. "I actually thought we played all right defensively in the first half. We got two turnovers in their end and got nothing out of it."

Offensively, the two-QB system with Matt McDermott and Ben Onett ran into a series of Dracut potholes and really never got going until after the Middies led 27-0.

Each led Central to fourth-quarter scoring drives, with Trae Musumarra busting in on a 16-yard run and McDermott hitting Xavier Peralta on a 26-yard TD hookup to the post.

Musumarra paced the Raider defense with 14 tackles, while safety Fortune Kalala had a first-half pick.
