Odds and ends: The Scarlet Knights upset Central Catholic for the second straight year in the sectional quarterfinals ... Mariah Dellea missed most of her sophomore and junior seasons due to tearing both her ACLs in consecutive years. ... Danielle Quinlan, Cassandra Fagan and Katie Maroney scored in the season-opening 3-1 win over Billerica. ... Rebecca Baker was part of the 4x800 team which broke the all-time area record.

Coach Bud McCarthy (21st year, 286-70-42): "The top dogs in our league will be Newburyport and Masconomet. Newburyport is just loaded and Masco is coming off a great postseason, they have a lot of speed. We expect to be in the hunt. Our goal every year is to win the CAL, and there is no reason to set our sights any lower. The key for us will be to get some scoring. We might have some finishers this year. In the past, we have been able to compete with anyone, but we haven't been able to put teams away, but like I said, I think we have some finishers in this group."
