Masconomet coaching legend Len Emmons has never been a fan of night soccer. He drew even further away from the idea of it after his previously-unbeaten Chieftains (12-1-3) fell at Wilmington last Friday, 2-1.
"We had a 1-0 lead and there was a power outage with 21 minutes and 43 seconds to play. That's 1:43 from the 20-minute mark (of the second half), which would have made it an official game," said Emmons.
"Wilmington was pooped from chasing us around, but had a great rest during that outage. We cooled off after the lights went out. We also lost Dan Gelinas at the 17-minute mark of the second half; he took an elbow to the head and needed five stitches."
It was the first time Emmons had encountered a lights-out situation in 36 years of coaching. "It's an 80-minute game and we didn't play particularly well, but we did dominate at times," Emmons said.
