DRACUT — After falling behind by 19 points midway through the second quarter, Andover cut the deficit to three late in the third quarter.

But that was as close as Andover would get, as Dracut poured on the points from there on in a 47-22 romp last night.

“I was very concerned in the second quarter,” said interim Andover head coach John Rex. “But we really showed a lot of heart getting the two scores to make it close. But we just couldn’t get that stop to take it to the next level.”

The Golden Warriors struggled against the high-powered Dracut attack.

Eighth-ranked Dracut tallied 493 yards of total offense, including 311 on the ground.

Matt Silva was a force on the ground (19 carries, 164 yards, 2 TDs) and through the air (13 for 16, 182 yards, 3 TDs). He was especially tough in the second half, tallying 113 yards rushing to keep the Golden Warriors at bay. His favorite target was Jared Gauthier (8 catches, 135 yards, 2 TDs).

The only mark on his record was two first-half interceptions, one each from John Hennessy and Jimmy Johnson.

Andover scored on three consecutive drives spanning the second and third quarter. But twice the Middies answered with a score of their own, the other stopped by the end of the first half.

“They are a heck of a football team,” said Rex. “They just kept answering, and it mushroomed from there. They are rolling right now.”

Trailing 19-0 with 5:24 left in the half, the Golden Warriors went on a 14-play, 81-yard drive that Hennessy capped off with a 1-yard QB sneak.

They then took the second-half kickoff and went on an 11-play drive that Hennessy again finished off with a sneak through the middle.

After allowing another score, Andover answered back when Hennessy took off on a 40-yard scoring run to make it 26-22.

But Andover managed just one more first down, while Dracut tacked on three more scores as insurance.

Hennessy finished 14-of-31 throwing for 143 yards and rushed for a team-best 83 yards on 13 carries.

Former soccer star Kerrick Stevens caught his first two varsity passes, finished with a team-best 56 yards receiving.

Jake Lebowitz continued to lead the Warriors, notching nine tackles and a sack, while Will Keller, Craig Hornung and Brian Miller each sacked the QB once.
