The Sachems opened with a win on the heels of last year's undefeated season. Emily Funk (50-yard hurdles, 8.2), Brittany Adams (50-yard dash, 6.9), Amy Babeu (2-mile, 13:09.4), Sarah Pearsall (shot put, 26-6), Stephanie Fitzgerald (300, 43.1), Valerie Grim (600, 1:39.6), April O'Brien (1,000, 2:58.5), Alanna Poretta (mile, 5:28.7) and the mile relay (4:43.3) of Julia Quattrini, Grim, O'Brien and Breanna Yocum placed first.

"I thought our girls did great," Pentucket coach Steve Derro said. "To get a win over a solid North Reading team is a nice way to open the season."
