Haverhill no match for Billerica

HAVERHILL | Without question, Billerica is at a far higher level of play than Haverhill.

With senior quarterback Timmy Morrison relaxing behind daunting pass protection and delivering bullets to wide open receivers, the Hillies were picked apart to the tune of a 31-7 decision that left the locals winless (0-8).

Morrison was beyond impressive, connecting on 17 of 26 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Kyle Higgins (6 catches, 115 yards), James Sorenson and Jim Holland hauled in the six-pointers from Morrison.

Haverhill has suffered through key injuries this year, and lost another player in sophomore Isaiah Williams (shoulder) during the contest.

Haverhill head coach Tim Briggs observed, "Quite frankly, take a look around. What we've got left, what's on crutches, what's out here (on the field). There's a lot more indicators than what just happens on the field. There's two different levels of programs. Like I told these guys, if you want to get there (to Billerica's level), then they've got to work their (butts) off."

Three athletic plays netted the Hillies their lone score midway through the second quarter. With solid interior line work and key blocks, Noel Figuereo (9 carries, 51 yards) rambled 62 yards to the Billerica 28. Then senior receiver Justin Cook took down a pair of challenging jump balls down the right sidelines.

The first covered 26 yards on third-and-15 and the last was a 5-yard beauty with Cook just getting his toes inbounds in the end zone for the score, making for a 13-7 contest at the time.

But Billerica (now 7-1) scored the last 18 points and Haverhill could only manage 47 yards of offense the rest of the way.
