Both long ago out of the MVC race, Central Catholic and Andover had hoped for more. But a win on Thanksgiving Day heals many wounds.

“Winning on Thanksgiving would make our season,” said Andover defensive lineman Jake Lebowitz. “Even if we went 0-10, then beat Central, it would be a good season.”

With a victory, the Raiders (5-5, 3-4 MVC) can clinch a winning season after last year’s disappointing 5-6 record. With a loss, they’d have back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 1984-87.

Central’s offense revolves around senior quarterback Shain Jowett. He has completed 71 of 143 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for a team-high 570 yards and eight touchdowns on 154 attempts.

The defense is paced by linebacker Zack Lattrell and defensive end Zak Adamopoulos (85 tackles, 8 sacks). Linemen Walter Gillis and Dan Canniff also star on both sides of the ball for the Raiders.

The Golden Warriors (3-7, 2-5 MVC) have won the last two Turkey Day contests. They will need a big day from junior QB John Hennessy, who has thrown for 1,386 and an area-high 16 touchdowns. His favorite targets are junior track star Chris McConnell (31 catches, 441 yards, 6 TDs) and senior Sean Ehlbeck (26 catches, 420 yards). Hennessy (555 rushing yards) and Tucker Devine (746 yards) are also threats on the ground.

Senior linebacker Steven LaFortune (71 tackles) leads the defense along with Andrew Lebowitz (65 tackles) and brother Jake Lebowitz (57).

Once in firm control, Central is now clinging to an 18-16-1 lead in the Thanksgiving Day series. Andover has taken three of the last four after the Raiders took six of seven.
