BYFIELD — A Thanksgiving victory was exactly what Triton craved as it looked to close out its late-season turnaround.

With a nearly complete game on Thursday, the Vikings put together its most competitive effort of the season. The offense exploded from the get-go for Triton, which took a 35-21 victory over rival Pentucket. It was 35-0 at one point.

“It was a complete game,” said Vikings coach Patrick Sheehan. “The seniors carried us. A sophomore [Jake] MacInnis ran like an absolute bull.”

Dylan Leavitt caught two touchdown passes and quarterback Tommy Lapham threw for three in their final appearance on the Byfield turf.

The Vikings drove 80 yards on their first possession, which was capped off with a 20-yard touchdown toss to Dylan Shute.

After a Sachems punt that went for only two yards against the tough wind, the Vikings scored on their very next play, going 29 yards to Leavitt.

MacInnis had a second quarter 1-yard TD rush and Lapham found Kyle Odoy for the conversion and a 22-0 lead at the break.

Sachems get hot

Trailing 35-0, the Sachems offense finally got going in the fourth quarter when quarterback Gus Flaherty connected with Nathan McGrail for a 4-yard touchdown. The next possession, Flaherty found McGrail down the left sideline for a 64-yard score.

With time running out, Brandon Wilbur ran it in from 12 yards to trail 35-21. The next possession for the Vikings was taking a knee,

“They’re a good team we played,” said Sachems coach Steve Hayden. “They beat us up front and made some plays. Their cornerbacks were good. It was good to see we did score. It would have been better to win.”

Pentucket finishes the season 3-7, while Triton wraps up at 5-6.
