It is all starting to come together for Timberlane.
Five years into the varsity program, the Owls look to be well on their way to a winning season after demolishing Goffstown 20-2 on Thursday night to improve to 5-1.
"The biggest difference is that the girls have been playing together for four years now at the varsity level," said Timberlane coach Mark Pedersen. "When we started the program, freshman year was the first time a lot of these girls had picked up a stick."
This year's team shows that continuity, with 12 seniors and 11 returning starters, including the top 10 scorers from last year. Led by Morgan Deshaw, who has 24 goals and 39 points in the first six games, and Lindsay Desharnais' 14 goals and 28 points, the Owls sit in second place in New Hampshire Division 2.
In fact, this senior class was the first group of eighth graders to be involved in the youth program, and that, coupled with their on-field success, has turned them into role models for the current youth players.
Despite the abundance of seniors on this year's team, it doesn't appear as if Timberlane is heading for a letdown any time soon.
"We now have a well established youth program," said Pedersen. "Most of our girls have played together for three or four years before they are even freshmen."
