Odds and ends: John Fichera took over for Tim Powers, who went 2-40 in the first three years of the program. Fichera, a middle school teacher in Derry, assisted the Pinkerton girls the last six years. Three years prior to that he was head girls coach at Bishop Brady. He's from a well known athletic family. His sister, Coni, is the field hockey coach at Bryant University. ... Alicia Beauregard is recovering from a knee injury but is expected back before April vacation. ... Freshman Alex Catalano has been a major surprise, despite having a limited background in the game.

Coach John Fichera (1st year): "A lot of games last year were really close. I was intrigued by the idea whether I could tilt them in favor of Pelham. We had a good formula at Pinkerton. It's a real interesting group. They aren't resisting the changes. The learning curve is severe. Caitlin Morgan moves very well and has solid stick skills. Jen Stanton, one of our feeders, has some height and is fairly strong. Katie Bourque has a cannon of a shot. Cassandra Costello is a shut-the-door kind of kid."
