Bridget Dullea had one of those days she will probably never forgot.
"I just kept scoring ... it was ridiculous," the 16-year-old junior attack from Peabody said after reaching an individual milestone with eight goals and one assist as Bishop Fenwick (4-0) held off Gloucester, 12-11, in girls' lacrosse on the Fenwick campus yesterday. Her nine-point flurry was a school mark in addition to the eight strikes.
Dullea, a 44-goal scorer last season, posted five of seven goals in a 7-7 halftime standoff, and added three more tallies after the break, including the eventual winner, the 12th tally that made it 12-8. The eight goal explosion gave Dullea 20 on the season. One of the eight yesterday was on a penalty shot.
The 12-goal total was a Fenwick school record for the two-year program.
"We did a nice job to come back from 0-3," Dullea said. "I had five goals (by the half) and couldn't believe it. I had never experienced anything like that. I also realized it was a close game, so I had to keep going hard. It was unbelievable. I had been working on my shot and it paid off."
Her previous single game high was five goals, done twice.
Teammates also starring were Ellen O'Leary of Boxford had two goals and Mary Keller of Hamilton was 1 and 1.
"Bridget was just fantastic," Fenwick coach Karen Guillemette said. "We had a slow start, but showed character battling back."
