The Manchester Essex girls lacrosse team was overmatched yesterday against Division 1 Masconomet, but the Hornets will be better off for it.
At least that's what head coach Sarah Holch believes after seeing her Hornets, a Division 2 state tournament team last year, fall to Masco, 22-6, in the season opener for both teams. Due to a scheduling change in the Cape Ann League, Manchester Essex saw Masconomet for the first time ever.
'I don't think it was a bad thing," said Holch. "The girls got a chance to see a really good lacrosse team. They're a fast team with great stick skills. They play beautiful lacrosse. Fortunately, we only play them once."
Senior attack Anneliese Brosch led the Hornets with two goals. Simone Bodmer-Turner added a goal and an assist and Molly Osborne tallied a goal.
Although it may not have made a difference in the end result, Holch said that the Hornets defense sorely missed the services of Molly Foye, who was out sick.
