Riding a two-game slide and running out of chances to qualify for the state tournament, things might have gotten a little skittish in Andover this week.
The Warriors left no doubt, heading into the last week of the regular season.
Chris Nicholas led a roll of six straight Andover hits to start the game, and Gabe Hernandez' two-run triple kick-started an 11-run barrage — all in the top of the first — as the Warriors KO'd Peabody, the No. 4 team in Eastern Mass., 15-5.
Andover, which had a total of 10 hits in the previous two games, belted 21 yesterday to move to 10-8 and qualify. Hernandez and EJ Perry IV led the way with four hits apiece, combining for seven RBIs.
"If we jump out in front, we play well," said Warriors coach Dan Grams. "I knew we'd play better than we have been. We're so young, playing six sophomores regularly. The kids are responding. Hopefully now we can go on a run like last year."
