The North Andover High boys exuded depth and athleticism by taking second overall at the Division 2 State Indoor Track Championships.
"It's one of the best teams we've ever had at the high school," said coach Steve Nugent. "I couldn't be prouder of them for the way they answered the call each and every time we competed this year."
Owen Jordan cleared 6-5 to win the high jump, the Knights' lone victory. Sophomore Jukka Morales was second in the 55 meters.
On the girls side, the Knights featured one champion as well.
The girls high jump looked like an evenly-matched field. And North Andover's Catherine Flaherty showed up when it counted. The Scarlet Knight cleared 5-foot-4 to win the State Division 2 high jump title.
Speaking of peaking at the right time, Central Catholic senior Jack McInnis is having a February to remember.
The Raider broke eight seconds for the first time in the 55 hurdles last week at the Merrimack Valley Conference meet. And yesterday, he broke through with the biggest victory of his life, taking the Division 2 state title in a sizzling 7.79.
"It was a shock to the team, and I think he surprised himself a little bit," said Central coach Mike Leal
