Merrimack College junior captain Jordan Heywood has been named the Hockey East Athletic Player of the Week. He is the second Warrior to win the honor in as many weeks, after Mike Collins picked up the honor last week.
Heywood scored three times over the weekend and added an assist, getting his first career two-goal game in a 5-2 win at Northeastern Friday. He netted the game-winner late in the third period on Saturday in front of a sellout crowd at homecoming. Merrimack was also named the Hockey East Team of the Week for the second time this season.
Heywood is tied for third in Hockey East in scoring and is tied for first among all defenders with eight points. His four goals are tops among league defensemen and are tied for first nationally among blue liners.
Merrimack (4-3-1, 3-1-1 HEA) is home for a pair of games this weekend.
