You've got to hand it to the Pinkerton boys cross country team  it's consistent in the big meets.

For the fifth time in seven years, the Astros finished runner-up in the Division 1 meet, this time to rising power Bedford.

"Obviously, we'd prefer beibg first but I think that's quite an accomplishment," said Pinkerton coach Mike Clark. "We actually didn't run our best as a team, but we did have some great performances."

Leading the way was Patrick Chabot, who ran what Clark called "the race of his life" to finish fourth overall with a 16:30 on the rugged 5K Derryfield Park course, a personal-best time by 20 seconds.

Chris Poggi was 15th for Pinkerton and junior Phil Parent "ran like a champ" to take 19th and Connor Kwiecien had a 27=second PR time while coming in 23rd.

The Astros barely nipped Londonderry, which was only one point behind thanks to a superb effort from its top three runners. Junior Damon Kilgore (16:35) and Josh Leahy finished sixth and seventh respectively while Grant McAuliffe came in 11th.

Salem was led by Joe Settineri in 20th and Mitch Dutton in 29th.
