Odds and ends: Before last year, the Hornets only won 14 games in the previous three seasons. Their last winning season was 1999-00 (11-8) and the last time they were in the quarterfinals was in 1992-93 (also 13-9). ... Jackie Harrow is a left-handed point guard. ... Alison Friberg was CAL MVP in volleyball. Kristen Giddings and Lauren Mazzone also played on the Division 3 state champion volleyball team.

Coach Karla Sullivan (2nd year, 13-9): "I don't think it's unrealistic (a repeat of last year). We have a real talented group of young players. It's the experience we're lacking. Katie Goldstein can shoot from the outside. Jackie is a good point guard. Alison Friberg is a real leader."
