When the Ipswich boys basketball team got off to a 2-5 start this season, coach Doug Woodworth wasn't thinking about the postseason. But Woodworth and the Tigers can start preparing for the Division 4 North tournament now after reeling off eight wins in the last 11 games.
Ipswich locked up its spot in the tourney with a 54-45 victory over North Reading last night.
"I'm so proud of the kids. They believed all along even though it didn't look good in the beginning," Woodworth said. "This team just competes. They're competitive and they find ways to get it done."
Pete Karas hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points, Myles Layman had 16, and Alex Lampropoulos contributed 10 for Ipswich.
The Tigers moved to 10-8 with games remaining against Hamilton-Wenham and Bishop Fenwick.
