The Hornets (3-2) used a 20-0 run at the start of the game to cruise to the win in the opening round of the Gloucester Holiday Tournament. Manchester Essex freshman guard Joe Mussachia led the way with 18 points (including 16 in the second half) while senior guards and captains Marty Nally (18 points) and Marty Nally (15 points) were other standouts in the win.

Hornets head coach Bill Cahill lauded Nally and Settipane for their work in the fast start. "We started out up-tempo, there were lots of fast breaks early, it was like a layup drill." In the second half, the Indians made up some ground but couldn't come back all the way. Cahill cited the great defense of junior guard Pat Orlando as a key to keeping the lead in the final half.

Manchester Essex will play in the championship game tonight at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of Gloucester and Hamilton-Wenham while the consolation game has been moved back to 5:00 p.m.
