Sanz, Central Catholic win Division 2 relay title

The Central Catholic girls earned victories in the shuttle hurdles and pole vault on the way to taking first place at the Class B Relays yesterday at Whitman-Hanson.

The Raiders won with 64 points, edging Mansfield's 58 points.

Running in an unseeded heat, the team of Ali Sanz, Ashleigh Marks, Hope Alaimo and Brianna Gagnon surged back to take the shuttle hurdles in a stellar 67.47.

"Winning the shuttle hurdles was huge," said Central coach Katie Sullivan. "To come out of the unseeded heat and win was big. It really speaks to out depth as a team."

Bridget Persico, Madison Arndt and Tori Catanzano combined to take the pole vault (25-0) for the Raiders, while Catanzano, Alaimo and Marks combined to take second in the triple jump (98-5). Sanz teamed with Molly Adamopoulous and Brianna Gagnon to placed second in the high jump (14-6).

"Our field events all placed very high," said Sullivan. "We came out and performed very well. I think the last time we won was 2007."

North Andover's Kristen DiTroia, Anne Lafond and Cassie Marino were right behind in the pole vault, taking second with a 22-6. The team of Amanda Foote, Julia Mehlman, Nihala Thanikkal and Krista Perryman added a second in the 4x100 for the Scarlet Knights.

SACHEMS STAR

Pentucket posted a pair of first-place finishes at the Division 3 boys relays. The team of C.J. Lataille, Matt Barry and Sam Fuller took the long jump relay (55-7 1/2) while John Burton, Tom Funk and Tim Gallant won the pole vault relay (26-6).

The Sachem girls were led by Lexi Kitsakos, Ali Attenasio, Chase Marcotte and Erin Donovan that were third in the shuttle hurgles in 70.7

At the Division 2 boys relays, North Andover was paced by the pole vault relay of Kyle Quinn, Luke Sakakeeny and Joey O'Neill which placed first (29-0 1/2 ).
