The No. 1 seeded Haverhill boys volleyball team prevailed 3-2 over MVC foe and No. 12 seed Andover in the semifinals of the Division 1 North volleyball tournament.
Andover put up quite a fight after being swept by Haverhill in the two previous matches between the two schools this season. Andover had quite the run, including upsetting No. 4 St. John's Prep, 3-0, in the quarterfinals.
Andover's Joseph Kuykendall led everyone with 27 kills.
"He just played so well," Haverhill coach Bill Kaste said. "He hit hard. He blocked. He served. Very complete ball player.
"They were one of the best defensive teams we've played against and they had a great attack," Kaste added about Andover. "They fought us tooth and nail all match long., Very even match."
Kaste said the win took a complete team effort.
"But Brett Pettis has been a rock all year long for us," said Kaste, adding that Pettis kept Haverhill focused.
Pettis had 13 kills, eight digs and three aces.
Haverhill's Zach Sindoni recorded 32 assists while Will Gold had 34 assists for Andover.
