Methuen may not have quite the star power as in the past, but the Rangers still have solid depth as they showed Saturday by placing first in the Wakefield Tournament.
The Rangers placed 12 wrestlers and came away with three champions among five finalists. Placing first for Methuen were sophomore Adam Rader, who had a first period pin in the 113-pound finals, 145-pounder Zabian Cruz and heavyweight Dereck Ramirez. Cruz is a repeat champ at Wakefield while Ramirez won his first crown.

Methuen opened its dual-meet season with a 57-24 victory over Xaverian as Justin Sheehan at 138 started a string of six straight pins ending with 182-pounder Jose Diaz.

Jose Diaz captured his first tournament title, at 182, as Methuen finished fourth at the Oliver Ames Tournament. Mike Crowe (106), Zabian Cruz (145) and CJ Brown (170) were all runners-up.
