LAWRENCE — He was a whirlwind of arms, legs, braids and feverish intensity.

Central Catholic sophomore Luis Puello plays the type of defense that warms the hearts of coaches and gives opposing backcourt men nightmares. Methuen's guards will no doubt be seeing the swarming Puello in their sleep after he led the Raiders to a 66-35 win in the nightcap of Day 1 at the Greater Lawrence Christmas Tourney.

In a game where every Central Catholic player scored, Michael Alvarez' 16 points was tops in an 86-42 humbling of Billerica. Alvarez also added 6 rebounds and 6 steals while Carson Desrosiers contributed 7 points, 8 blocks and 10 rebounds in the season-opening victory.
