Hillies pool their talents

Haverhill's swim team put a lot of swimmers into the top three against Belmont, making for an easy 98-73 victory. The 200 freestyle relay team of Connor Cronin, Luke DeFusco, Nick Roy and Phil Donnelly punched its ticket into the sectionals with a time of 1:53.43, and Hanul Moon qualified for states in diving.

Lexington 87, Central Catholic 75

Central Catholic's 200 freestyle relay team of David Kitchen, Dan Lefebvre, Mike Panagiatakos and Mike Begonis qualified for sectionals as part of the Raiders' 87-75 loss to Lexington. Lefebvre and Kitchen were involved in three of Central's four victories.

Haverhill's Max Koffman, Nick Roy, Connor Cronin and Phil Donnelly teamed to win the 400 freestyle relay in a speedy 3:47.92 to highlight the Hillies 92-76 win over Central Catholic.David Kitchen and Dan Lefebvre combined to win three individual events and a relay for the Raiders.

Haverhill started out strong then held on to defeat Central Catholic, 101-84. Max Koffman highlighted the Hillie victory as he prevailed in the 200 and 100 freestyle then swam the lead leg in the meet-winning 200 freestyle relay. For Central, Dan Lefebvre and David Kitchen each won a pair of individual events and pitched in on a relay victory as well.

Hunter wins 4 golds

Andover won six events but Chelmsford's depth was the difference as the Lions edged the Golden Warriors, 398-377.5, to capture the Merrimack Valley Conference swim meet.

In a memorable day, Andover's Paul Hunter captured the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Teammate John Belanger tied for first in the 100 freestyle and won the 100 backstroke.

Londonderry swimmers prevail on Friday night

On Friday, Londonderry topped Bishop Brady and Campbell. Dan Welton won the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.12 and followed that with a win in the 100 freestyle (53.35). Cory Hayes earned the top spot in the 100 butterfly (1:03.74).

Astros make waves

The Pinkerton boys swim team went 2-0 in its tri-meet against Londonderry and Campbell. Marc Marois swam well as he won the 200 freestyle (1:53.93) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.43), and he was also on the winning 400 freestyle relay team. Hunter Hollingsworth also stepped up big for the Astros, winning the 200 IM (2:17.77) and 500 freestyle (5:40.63), and swimming the third leg of the 400 freestyle relay team.

Hillies trio shines in opener

Mike Carbone, Tom Franklin and Mark Lalli cruised as Haverhill topped Central Catholic, 97-85, in the season opener for both teams. In individual events, Carbone took the 200 IM (2:23.08) and the 100 breastroke (1:15.86), Franklin took the 500 freestyle (5:37.63), and Lalli had the top times in the 50 freestyle (25.31) and 100 freestyle (56.11). All three were also on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:58.33), and Franklin and Carbone swam the first and last legs of the winning 400 freestyle relay team (4:09.04), respectively.
