Owls eclipse Astros

Shaking off a spate of Pinkerton decisions in the middle weights, Timberlane rode commanding victories to a 49-18 victory. Matt Morris earned Wrestler of the Meet honors at 130 pounds by trouncing Dave Owens, 13-0. Will Smith was also impressive with a technical fall at 112 pounds. Daniel Barker (135) and Collin Crowell (145) had pins for the Astros.

With only two matches actually contested on the day, Dracut took a 16-12 victory over Haverhill. Terrance Jean-Jacques earned the Hillies' lone competitive victory with a 48-second pin in heavyweight competition.

Another first

After defeating Central Catholic for the first time ever over the weekend, Lawrence's wrestling team had another historic win last night, blasting Lowell 45-19 for its first win over the Red Raiders. Jorge Aquino sparked the win with an 11-3 major decision over the state's No. 1-ranked 103-pounder, Andrew Gauthier, and Kevin Valerio had a 13-2 major decision over Lowell Holiday placer Frank McCarthy. Aquino is now 25-4 on the year and Valerio is 27-2.

In a battle of unbeatens, Timberlane blasted a good Winnacunnet team, 43-12. Shane Tremblay, who won a wrestleoff, was "Wrestler of the Meet" with a 6-3 decision at 189 over Timberlane coach Barry Chooljian's nephew, Rob Chooljian, for the Owls (8-0) and Dylan Lockard won a key 7-5 decision at 152. Winnacunnet had recently won the Chelmsford Tournament, beating Shawsheen Tech in the process.

Owls withstand challenge

Salem gave unbeaten Timberlane a brief challenge, trailing just 15-13 at one point, but huge wins by Luke Morrier at 130 and Andrew Tanner at 140 turned the tide in a 47-16 win over Salem. Morrier handled Salem standout Devin Dearden 11-6 and Tanner went up a weight class to beat Zach Hicks, 4-2 in overtime.

Rangers on roll

Methuen's wrestling team rolled to three easy wins, 61-4 over Lwominster, 56-10 over Georgetown and 60-18 over Pentucket to improve to 6-0. Framingham Tournament champ Shaun McCarthy won three more matches at 215 and Framingham winner C.J. Doherty was unbeaten at 135. Also, Scott Delrossi continued to impress at 160 with three wins.
