Magnificent Megan

The Golden Warriors girls ice hockey team improved to 4-1 thanks to the continued strong play of goaltender Megan Pettoruto, who blanked Everett and finished with 13 saves. Pettoruto now has four shutouts on the year, all of which coming in Andover's past four games. Interestingly, the senior netminder has faced exactly 13 shots in each of the past three games.

Gloucester 6, Everett 1

The Gloucester field hockey team (7-3-1) inched closer to a state tournament berth with a 6-1 domination of Everett. Senior captain Cat LaCroix lead the Fishermen attack with two goals, the first coming in the first minute of the game. Alysha Clayton, Brianna Aloisio and Emily Castro also scored for Gloucester.

Nicole Wilson spun a complete-game, three-hit gem and Michelle Grifoni went 3 for 4 with two RBIs to lift Peabody to a 5-0 start. Wilson struck out 13 and walked one, while surrendering an unearned run in the fifth inning. Kenia McKeon added one hit and two RBIs.

Tanners thump Everett

Freshman Mary-Kate Helas hit a grand slam in her first varsity game as the Tanners (1-0) pulverized the rival Crimson Tide, 18-6.

Seniors Tawny Palmieri, Sam Terenzoni and Michelle Grifoni each contributed three hits and Nicole Wilson fanned 12 Everett batters to earn the win. Peabody went ahead 9-0 after two innings and added six in the seventh frame.

Masconomet baseball drubs Everett

Masconomet's baseball team won 19 games last season and made it all the way to the Division 2 North final. It looks like Masco is serious about having that type of season again.

The Chieftains opened the season in spectacular fashion yesterday, ripping 17 hits in a 17-3 non-league win over Everett.

Masco's offense perks up

The scoring drought may be over for the Masconomet hockey team. The Chieftains hope so, anyway.

A.J. Rothwell scored with just three seconds left in the opening period and that seemed to jump start Masconomet, which rolled to a 5-0 win over Everett in a non-league contest last night. Masconomet improved to 3-3.

Everett dominates St. John's Prep

DANVERS | It didn't take long for visiting Everett to spoil St. John's Prep's home opener before a large crowd at Donahue Stadium. Both teams came into the contest sporting 2-0 records.

However, the Crimson Tide demonstrated why they are ranked No. 1 in the state and in the top 20 nationwide by displaying multiple weapons on offense and a stifling defense in a 35-7 thrashing of the Eagles.
