Charlie Koshivas looked sharp with three pins on the day, driving his record to 18-3, to pace Georgetown-Ipswich to a quad-meet sweep over Minuteman, host Watertown (39-37) and Middleboro. Carsten LaPlante also was 3-0 on the day and is now 17-5 on the year. Right behind is 113-pounder Josiah Krason, whose three wins puts him at 14-5. 

NORTH READING — North Reading head coach Jeff Wall said the Hornets knew what Watertown would do, and they were prepared for it. But quarterback Deon Smith just proved too much to handle last night for the Hornets, who fell 31-7 in the Division 4 North semifinals. 

Jessica Leone scored with seven minutes left but No. 4 Watertown-Belmont held on to beat Andover 2-1 in a Division 1 first round game.

Andover coach Kevin Drew said, "We had plenty of chances at the end. We just missed. It came down to the last second."

Newcomer Jacob Wengler had a big win at 106 over the Wakefield Tournament runner-up to highlight Pentucket's surprising sweep of Watertown (48-30) and Middleboro (45-12), lifting the Sachems to 8-5-1.

Carsten LaPlante was the top point scorer for Georgetown/Ipswich, going 3-0 at 113, as the surprising s0-0p team won a quad meet in Watertown, nipping the host team 39-38, to improve to 7-2.

NORTH ANDOVER —  Salem 6-5 junior forward Matt Vartanian summed up his team’s subpar performance against Watertown on Saturday perfectly.

“We finally had a good run at pressing the other team, and we haven’t been able to do that in a while but our halfcourt defense was awful and we couldn’t finish at the hoop,” Vartanian said. “Not much positive.”

No. 13 Andover fell to No. 4 Watertown-Belmont in the first round of the Division 1 state tourney. Veronica Alois scored twice for the Golden Warriors, Jess Leone had two assists and Megan Johnson turned aside 22 shots.
