Koshivas drives G-I

 

Charlie Koshivas looked sharp with three pins on the day, driving his record to 18-3, to pace Georgetown-Ipswich to a quad-meet sweep over Minuteman, host Watertown (39-37) and Middleboro. Carsten LaPlante also was 3-0 on the day and is now 17-5 on the year. Right behind is 113-pounder Josiah Krason, whose three wins puts him at 14-5.

Watertown knocks Hornets out of playoffs

NORTH READING — North Reading head coach Jeff Wall said the Hornets knew what Watertown would do, and they were prepared for it. But quarterback Deon Smith just proved too much to handle last night for the Hornets, who fell 31-7 in the Division 4 North semifinals.

Jessica Leone scored with seven minutes left but No. 4 Watertown-Belmont held on to beat Andover 2-1 in a Division 1 first round game.

Andover coach Kevin Drew said, "We had plenty of chances at the end. We just missed. It came down to the last second."

Watertown races past Salem

NORTH ANDOVER —  Salem 6-5 junior forward Matt Vartanian summed up his team’s subpar performance against Watertown on Saturday perfectly.

“We finally had a good run at pressing the other team, and we haven’t been able to do that in a while but our halfcourt defense was awful and we couldn’t finish at the hoop,” Vartanian said. “Not much positive.”

Commonwealth Classic: Pinkerton wins first title in its 19 years in tourney

NORTH ANDOVER — At one point, Coach Peter Rosinski was hollering “rhombus, rhombus.”

Maybe that was a code to turn to simple Geo-metry. Super sophomore Geo Baker-Occeus took over in the fourth quarter when the Astros were in a major offensive funk and lifted the New Hampshirites to a 60-50 win over perennial Massachusetts small school power Watertown.
