Odds and ends: Coach Mary Johnson thought she might have been too loyal to her seniors last year and is giving playing time strictly on performance this fall. ... Linda Koehler, who coach Johnson at Pelham in the late '90s, is back as an assistant. Her daughter, Emily, is a junior midfielder. ... Jess Fanaras, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last year, has looked sharp in preseason.

Coach Mary Johnson (3rd year, 4-22-2): "It's been definitely a great start to the season. No negativity. To raise the morale was our big goal. We lost to Hollis in a scrimmage, 5-4, and they are very competitive. We'd like to go .500. I think we have some talent. We're going to start the best players and who gives 110 percent. When Molly Smith is on, she's on. We're looking for big things from her and Emily Koehler."
