Odds and ends: Phil Youngclaus, who went 210-85-37 in 18 years as the Pentucket girls coach (1985-02), has taken over for Nunzio DiMarca, who went 17-53-9 in his five-year stint. Youngclaus, who is also a well-known local hockey coach, also was head soccer coach at Triton in 1983-84 and assisted Bill Tarbox with the Reggies from 1975-82. ... Eight girls went out for the team. ... Assistant Dick Coakley has coached track at the school, where he is a culinary arts instructor. ... Aykut Tan is a promising transfer from Methuen High. ... Youngclaus said Carlos Menjivar still could come out. That would make a huge difference as he scored 22 goals last fall, which was second most in the region.
Coach Phil Youngclaus (1st year): "The Cano brothers (Christian and Alejandro) are my two top players. They'll be very good. They are very dedicated and have a knowledge of the game. Matthew Jasinski is a real good player. He's played club soccer so he's very promising. He's real fast. It's a rebuilding situation. We'll be OK."
