Owls start slow, then gain control

PLAISTOW, N.H. —- Timberlane's defense started slowly before stiffening up and its offense rolled for four quarters in a 47-20 trouncing of winless Spaulding (0-9).

The victory lifted the Owls to 4-3 in Division 2 (4-5 overall) and sets up a showdown at Alvirne next Friday, the winner of which will advance to the Division 2 playoffs.

Derek Furey opened the scoring with an 8-yard run to take a 7-0 lead, but Spaulding came right back 16 seconds to take an 8-7 lead on a 66-yard pass play and conversion rush. Nick Lawrence responded with a 53-yard run to make it 14-8, but Spaulding scored early in the second quarter to tie the game.

However, quarterback Nate Lawrence scored on a two-yard run just before halftime and the Owls outscored Spaulding 26-6 in a dominating second half.

Nick Lawrence had his best game of the season, rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Jarred Diorio kicked five extra points. He and Nate Lawrence were boith injured and on crutches last week.
