Coming off a tough 14-7 loss to Lynn Classical, Salem (5-4) isn't exactly overflowing with confidence as it travels to unbeaten Gloucester (9-0) tonight.

But on the other hand, what do the Witches have to lose? Nothing.

Salem should be loose enough to take its best shot at a great Gloucester team led by Andrew Fulford, who is the most efficient runner on the North Shore. Fulford has 970 yards and 21 touchdowns in just 104 carries.

That means he's averaging a touchdown every fifth carry. Ridiculous.

"It's not just (Fulford)," said Salem coach Scott Connolly. "Gloucester makes you defend the whole field. They have the best team speed in the conference.

"The way I look at it, we get to play football for another week. We're jacked up about playing a game. To have a chance against them, we have to find a way to slow down Fulford, and we can't let Anthony Enderle (the 255-pound Fishermen fullback has 501 yards in 44 attempts) run downhill. If that kid is allowed to, we're really in trouble. We have to be disciplined in the defensive line and at linebacker."

After watching film of the Lynn Classical game, Connolly reiterated that Colby Boulay had a strong game at quarterback. Defensive tackle Felix Gomez also had an outstanding game, said the coach.
