GLOUCESTER | It wasn't exactly the ideal weather forecast, but the Gloucester football team was happy to be back at home in Newell Stadium last night for the first time in 35 days.

Coming off four consecutive road games, the Fishermen were able to defend their home field and knock off Revere, 41-6, on a very rainy and uncharacteristically muggy late October evening. With the victory, Gloucester remained unbeaten at 7-0 (2-0 NEC Large), while the Patriots fell to 3-4 (0-2 NEC Large).

The Fishermen built a 28-6 lead in the first half. After Revere scored a touchdown early, capitalizing on a blocked punt deep in Gloucester territory, Gloucester reeled off four unanswered touchdowns, all on runs of more than 50 yards. The Fishermen then added two more TDs in the second half.

Andrew Fulford got the Fishermen on the scoreboard with a 59-yard run on the second play from scrimmage on Gloucester's second possession.

After holding Revere to a three-and-out, junior Taylor Burbine returned a punt 51-yards virtually untouched for a score.

In the second quarter, both Fulford (five rushes, 139 yards) and Burbine (two rushes, 61 yards) would score on touchdown runs of more than 60 yards. Burbine's run was a picturesque 66-yard scamper. He sprung free with a great spin move, shaking off a would-be tackler. He then raced across the field changing directions, which dizzied the Revere secondary.

"Taylor feels things coming and that's what's great about him," said Gloucester head coach Paul Ingram. "He's also an excellent blocker, so he's a great all-around player."

Despite the near-monsoon conditions in the third and fourth quarters, the Fishermen were able to do some damage in the air. Junior quarterback Rick Gallant hit senior tight end Cam Marston on stride for a beautiful 40-yard touchdown pass. Marston, who had two catches for 74 yards, recovered a poor Revere snap that had sailed over the punter's head in the end zone for a touchdown earlier.

Overall it was an impressive showing for Gloucester. But execution, something that Gloucester didn't need to worry about against the Patriots, will be a key theme in next week's practices as the Fishermen get ready for NEC Large power Lynn Classical.

"It's hard to assess this game because we scored so quickly," said Ingram. "The long runs are great, but we usually judge how we did based on how we executed, and we really didn't have a chance to execute in this game."
