GLOUCESTER | There would be no upset at Newell Stadium last night. Gloucester confirmed that very early.

Three offensive plays was all it took for the Fishermen to score their first two touchdowns and set themselves well on the way to a 48-15 win over Marblehead.

"This is one of the better Gloucester teams that I have seen in a long time," said Marblehead coach Doug Chernovetz. "We knew coming in that we would have to play great and minimize our mistakes."

The Fishermen opened up the scoring on their second play from scrimmage when running back Brian Harnish raced to a 46-yard touchdown to put Gloucester up 7-0.

After stopping the Magicians on the ensuing possession, Gloucester (2-0) got the ball again, and this time it only took the Fishermen one play to score.

Quarterback Ricky Gallant hooked up with Zack Kendall for a 45-yard touchdown to give Gloucester a 13-0 lead.

The Fishermen poured it on later in the first quarter, when Andrew Fulford picked off Marblehead quarterback Ian McKinley and took it 41 yards to the house to put Gloucester up 21-0.

The Magicians (1-1) looked to gain momentum when wideout Tariq Allen caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from McKinley. Allen leaped over a Gloucester defender to pull in the circus catch.

Fulford quickly added a 3-yard touchdown run to give Gloucester a 28-7 lead at the half.

Gloucester would add three more touchdowns in the second half, two from Fulford and one from junior Giacomo Romeo. Fulford now has seven touchdowns in two games.
