When it became apparent that the Hamilton-Wenham football team would be able to capture the Cape Ann League Small championship this season, the Generals simply shifted their team goals: win four of their final five games.

They're almost there.

The Generals pitched their first shutout of the season, getting all 13 points from senior captain Nate Masterson as they blanked North Reading, 13-0, in their final home game of 2007.

Masterson, who played despite a bad ankle, had touchdown runs of 24 and 7 yards and also booted an extra point.

"Nate played a courageous game," said head coach Andrew Morency, whose team improved to 5-4. "He had a spectacular run on that first touchdown, leaping right over a North Reading defender and into the end zone.

"Our 'D' really showed up (Saturday), too. It's gratifying to play this well and win in our last home game."

Among the defensive standouts for Hamilton-Wenham were junior linebacker Justin Mullen and a pair of cornerbacks, sophomore Zack Gaucher and junior Steve Dangora.
