LAWRENCE | Triton contained Lawrence for the first 22 minutes of the game, but after that, it all fell apart.

Ramon Heredia threw for a touchdown and was 6 of 10 for 95 yards in the Lancers' impressive second half, leading Lawrence to its second win of the season, 22-7. Meanwhile, the hard-hitting Lancers held the Vikings to one yard on eight carries in the final 22 minutes en route to their first win since Week 1.

"It's good to see because normally we come out for the second half and we have problems," said Lawrence coach Mike Yameen.

There were no problems this time. The Lancers came out of the locker room knotted at 7-7 with Triton, and after a holding penalty pulled the kick return back, Heredia and company stepped up right away.

They cobbled together a near-flawless 16-play, 90-yard drive that ate up 5:50 of the clock to start the second half.

Heredia connected on three straight passes for 19, 21, and 12 yards, then another for 34 two plays later. He closed the drive with a 9-yard strike to Luis Nova to put Lawrence ahead for good.

"At halftime, coach told us this is our last game on this field, and I speak for all of us when I say this, but we felt we owed it to the seniors to win tonight, so we came out firing," said Heredia, who has now passed for 1,220 yards on the season.

"We took a penalty, started on our own 10-yard line, and still drove it 90 yards," added Yameen. "It's good to see because we haven't done that often and that we can man up like that."

Lawrence capitalized on one of Triton's numerous second-half three-and-outs, and Devin Montanez (11 carries, 54 yards) added a 22-yard touchdown score with 2:24 to go to put the game hopelessly out of reach.

"(Winning again) feels good," said Heredia. "We have a good group of juniors and some seniors around us. Everyone stepped up and made plays. When it counted, we came through."

In the first half, though, Triton controlled the ball on the ground, pounding out 98 yards on 27 carries and eating up the clock, especially in the first quarter. But it was a fake field goal on fourth-and-goal from the 6-yard line that put the Vikings on the board first.

Will Joy took the snap and found Derek Clark in the end zone, capping a 56-yard drive. On that drive, the Vikings picked up four first downs. They only had two more in the rest of the game combined.
