NORTH ANDOVER | North Andover played like a spoiled kindergartener at recess refusing to give up his precious football.

The Scarlet Knights owned the pigskin against a game but overmatched North Reading squad, grinding out a convincing 13-0 victory for their second straight victory while ending the Hornets' three-game winning streak.

Between the double-barrel backfield of sophomore tailback Zac Iovanella (24 carries, 137 yards) and fullback Matt Burckhardt (20 carries, 107 yards, one touchdown), North Andover (now 2-2) had possession for 27<1/2> minutes of the 40-minute contest.

"It was a very hard fight," Knights head coach John Rafferty said. "We believe in running the football and sometimes we're better at it than others."

And when the offense did eventually surrender the ball, interceptions from Iovanella, sophomore Tommy O'Connell and senior Kenny Kobierski gave the Knights the ball back again. Iovanella's pick and 22-yard return with about three minutes left in the first quarter set North Andover at the Hornet 14. Four plays later, Burckhardt did the honors from two yards out. Kyle Dolan booted the point-after to give the Knights all the points they would need.
