Greater Lowell hunted high and low but couldn't seem to figure out where the ball went as it was pounded 41-8 by a deceptive Georgetown running game.

Royals quarterback Joe Esposito faked hand-offs and ran past a bewildered Greater Lowell defense for 163 yards. The fakes were so well executed that Esposito's fullback, John Boutin, was seemingly tackled more times without the ball than with it.

"We executed extremely well today," said Royals head coach Matt Bouchard. "When I started here last season I really focused on the option game, so this is our second year doing it. I expect to see a second-year performance, and that's what we got today."

With the win, the Royals have stepped up to knock off Commonwealth Conference Large teams each of the last three weeks.

"This was a huge win for us,'' said Bouchard whose club is 4-1 heading into its CAC Small opener Saturday against winless North Shore. "We're a talented team, but we're still light | we only have 20 varsity players at practice every day. We've had to work extra hard to overcome that." With a big lead late in the game, Georgetown was able to give its regulars a break and get some younger players into the game.

Royals fans weren't disappointed as 130-pound freshman Jamie Spears emulated his older teammates with a 48-yard dash around the outside and past Greater Lowell's stunned defense before being knocked out of bounds at the 19-yard line.

Spears' scamper set up a 19-yard touchdown run by sophomore Tyran Harrigan, the Royals' final score of the game.

"Jamie was a varsity basketball player in the eighth grade, and while he's still a little green for varsity football, anyone can see he's got great potential," said a beaming Bouchard. "The team this year really bought in to what we're trying to do here. I'm extremely proud of these guys."
