With no seniors and only one junior in the starting lineup, Londonderry softball coach Wayne MacDougall was concerned about how his young team would react to tournament pressure. Well, he had nothing to worry about.
Sophomore Theresa Zwart threw a sparkling one-hitter, striking out six without allowing a walk, and also had a two-run double as the Lancers (17-3) blanked Exeter 7-0 in the Class L first round yesterday. Classmate Nicole Williams was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Alyson Bermudez was 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored twice.
Londonderry will host local rival Pinkerton at 4 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals.
