SALEM | Bobby Dattilo had just one thing on his mind. "I thought to myself, 'Just stay up,'" said the Pinkerton senior. "I just had to stay on my feet and keep running."

On a crucial third-and-3 from the Salem 47-yard line midway through the fourth quarter, Dattilo took a handoff up the middle and appeared to be stopped for a minimum gain by the staunch Blue Devils' defensive front.

"I had been getting tripped up the whole game," said the Pinkerton senior. "On that play, I finally got my legs under me and broke it to the outside."

Instead of going down and forcing his team to punt, Dattilo stayed up, broke to the left side and scampered 33 yards for a first down. He was then tackled out of bounds, which was called a late hit and resulted in 10 more yards.

"I think the play was pretty big," said Dattilo with a smirk. "I just had to bob and weave away from everybody. It was great. I just had to run as fast as I could and follow my blockers."

That first down turned out to be the play of the game. The Astros led by only three at that point, and had seen the Blue Devils score a pair of second-half touchdowns. But after Dattilo's run, Pinkerton was able to run about two minutes off the clock. And the drive ended with Shawn Clukey booting the 22-yard field goal with 53 seconds left that clinched the Astros' 25-20 win over their archrivals.
