BILLERICA | Andover tri-captain Sam Clark's frustration was clear.

"This team is down right now," said the linebacker. "We poured our hearts out for this one. We played a great game on both sides of the ball, but I have to give all the credit in the world to Billerica."

The battle between possibly the two top teams in the Merrimack Valley Conference turned into an all-out offensive shootout that saw the Golden Warriors fall 34-27 in a game that took nearly three hours to complete.

The loss dropped Andover to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the MVC, while the Indians improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Offense was the name of the game last night as the two teams combined on an eye-popping 744 yards of total offense, 546 of which came through the air.

Battling a sprained ankle that he suffered a week ago against Dracut, the normally mobile Mike Pierce was reduced to a pocket passer. Despite a clear limp and struggles with his release, Pierce was still able to complete 19 of his 42 passes for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Derrick Beasley.

Pierce was one-upped by Billerica senior signal-caller Timmy Morrison, who was 16-of-25 passing for 310 yards and five touchdowns. Two of those scores came in the first quarter as the Indians took a lead they would not relinquish.
